Plan Area (SELPA) is a state-mandated office that supports
special education services and programs for students with exceptional
needs. The SELPA office for Marin County is
located at the County Office of
Education. Its role is to ensure that the districts provide
a free, appropriate public education to students with disabilities
in the least restrictive environment. To fulfill this
purpose, the SELPA oversees the allocation and distribution
of public funds to local educational agencies. Marin
